Question What's your take on Yahoo! and the future of the Internet?

Today's post on the Official Google Blog raises serious questions...

Quote:
Could the acquisition of Yahoo! allow Microsoft -- despite its legacy of serious legal and regulatory offenses -- to extend unfair practices from browsers and operating systems to the Internet? In addition, Microsoft plus Yahoo! equals an overwhelming share of instant messaging and web email accounts. And between them, the two companies operate the two most heavily trafficked portals on the Internet. Could a combination of the two take advantage of a PC software monopoly to unfairly limit the ability of consumers to freely access competitors' email, IM, and web-based services? Policymakers around the world need to ask these questions -- and consumers deserve satisfying answers.
What's your take?

Yahoo is here to stay, but...

IMHO Microsoft realizes its ship is sinking fast. Some investors have predicted that by 2011 more than 50% of computer users will have walked away from Windows. Many are tired of the Microsoft "addiction". Opera users have long said no to the IE (Microsoft) addiction. OpenOffice users are walking away from OOXML (MSWord) standards/addiction.

Trying to buy Yahoo! is Microsoft's way of grabbing for a life preserver for its failing online apps endeavors. Google already took the game with GAfYD. Microsoft Live flunked...everyone yawned. Vista flunked...everyone (including MS) yawned...

Back long ago (longer than some of you may remember), a young, creative fledgling bunch of bluejean-clad whippersnappers named Microsoft took the wind out of the sails of a bunch of stuffed-shirts that an increasingly uncreative IBM had become.

Now, a bunch of stuffed-shirts at Microsoft are losing the show, to a bunch of bluejean clad whippersnappers worldwide, at Mac, Opera, Linux/Ubuntu, and all over...

Microsoft thought it was the Titanic. But alas...

Ya.... Yahoo seems a better competitor than Microsoft today and its true that Microsoft doesn't want to get back 4m this Internet World. So a treaty with Yahoo wud be something worthwhile!

But.... After All it all depends upon Yahoo! Whether to opt for the Deal or Not....

Rest Is History!
