Has this function been incorporated into Reader yet?

The only complaint I hear over and over about Google Reader is the inability to organize items you have already read by deleting the items you don't want. Because we can not ever delete an item, I have probably 5,000, maybe 10,000, maybe even double or triple that number in my read items list. I star some items, but even that quickly becomes a mess like all the read items.

Does anyone know if a method has been devised to delete items we have read and do not want to keep?

That is my problem also...it keep annoying sometimes.
