reduce size of image without loosing clarity

Hi!!!
I have one image & it's size is 320 pixel X 320 pixel.
I want to reduce size in 160 pixel X 160 pixel without loosing clarity & sharpness. I tried lot of options in photoshop, but it does not work.
Is there any other software to do?
It's very difficult job.
Please help me out.
Thanx.

From what I see Dude66, your topic doesn't state how to do it anyway.

Also, usually when I resize things, they lose clarity anyway. I usually use the 'free transform' tool in Photoshop, but never do they look perfect like the original image. Maybe a graphics expert has an explanation..

use photoshop--

open the img, go up top on the toolbar, and click image > resize image > and change the resolution to something smaller then it already is.

Or you can select the image, click Ctrl + T, which will let you have free transform. Then hold shift as you stretch it smaller. Holding shift makes sure it doesn't warp the image.

Thanx my friend Kevinpb639,

As per your instructions, I tried in photoshop but still we do not get result as I want. I also tried in photoshop by another ways like sharpen, blur etc.
but when I save it for web, image loose that effects & clarity.
so I don't understand what is the problem.
I think there should be proper way to save that files with effects.
I just want to reduce size (i.e. width & height)
of image without loosing clarity & sharpness.
Please try to find out what should we want to do?
Have a nice day.

If you will show me the picture that you want it done to (link), I'll see what I can do with it. Then I'll tell you how I did it and such. Different pictures have to be manipulated different (at least that's what I've noticed).
