Can anyone recommend a good FREE GD programme?

Can anyone recommend a good FREE GD programme? I'd like to have a go at this kind of thing, but have no idea what to download really? I was looking in the terms of a free download of some kind?

( I know you get what you pay for, but still

)

Well you could try Gimp a great open source program:
http://www.gimp.org

Or why not try Paint.Net an updated version of MS Paint:
http://www.eecs.wsu.edu/paint.net/download.htm

There are loads more I could tell you about but I'm kind of tired now as you know!

Hope at least I helped in someway!

Wow thanks Darren. I'll try the Paint.Net one

I will keep Gimp in mind because I am thinking about trying Linux at some stage. I just need to build my confidence up for it.
