NewB4Life: To make my avatar background transparent, I made an image(obviously) then
- Made the stuff I wanted to be transparent white (by using the eraser/paintbrush etc...) - Went to file --> export --> GIF Optimizer - Choose 'Use Wizard' (in bottom left hand corner of the window that pops up) - This should take you to page 1 of five. Choose 'Convert Matching Colours to transparent' --> Next - Do nothing at the next screen --> next - Choose 'No, use the best colours' --> next - Slide the slider to the highest quality possible --> next - Finish If you email an animated.gif, then there is a good chance I will put it on my website (on a special user submissions page) |

I've used a similar method for making transparent backgrounds. But I've found I have a 'cleaner' result, if the colour I use to convert to transparent is a strong contrast to begin with.
I usually use red. But even then, I often find that I need to go back and clean it up a little more, particularly if dealing with subtle transitions in shading, like the shadow in your avatar. |
