Live music?

Hi everybody. I live in a rural town in the south of Ireland. As you may have guessed we don't have the best facilities especially for musicians. What I want to do though is set up an event which would happen maybe once or twice a month where local people would bring their instruments and play live music and then people from out of town who couldn't bring their instruments could play too on other people's instruments and then the rest of us would just listen or mosh or whatever. My question is does anyone here actually think this would work? I would appreciate especially the opinions of people who live in rural places themselves.
Everyone, please post

mondine is an unknown quantity at this point
Sure, if it's well-organized, and you can get some attention for it. Live music is always best, especially when musicians get together socially.

I live in a pretty large city, with several world-class venues for performance. But the best times are when various musician friends I know get together in a small club,
rented hall, or (in the summer) just someone's back yard.

It's fun, relaxed and friendly; and once you get a few people doing it, and the word spreads a little, it can be a whole lot of fun.
All it takes to begin with are determination, and initiative, and you could be the one that starts a great tradition. Start small and don't get discouraged.
Believe it, and make it happen. (Musicians sometimes need some prodding and herding.)

And if at all possible, cheap alcohol helps immeasurably.

It could work, especially if it were free to the public. Perhaps the bands or musicians would come for exposure and fun for themselves. Invite lots of girls and the rest will happen. Lol If you could get a full band to play it would draw a lot of interest from passerbyers and the word would spread around.

Tell them Bono and Edge are dropping by... :P
