The day the music died...
This is a blog that I've posted on my myspace account. I want to get feedback from others before I subject it to 55,000,000 users. This blog will be in the top 10 most viewed blog list, so I want to make any edits before I release it to the wild. Your input is highly appreciated.
As foretold by Don McLean, the day of the death of music is rapidly approaching, and it makes me sad. The digital age is becoming one where government agents can control everything, including rights to music. The new news from the RIAA is that it is "illegal" to transfer a music from one medium (a CD) to another (an iPod). If the RIAA has it's way, eventually we will not be buying music. We will simply be purchasing a limited license to play the music we purchase. The RIAA also believes that they should get a cut of every iPod sold. I'm not sure why - but they do. The only suggestion that I can fathom is to explain to everyone that they should NOT buy digital music online. Buy CD's, you remember those shiny silver discs... With downloaded music from services such as iTunes, Napster, and the like - you're purchasing music with limited capabilities. They have installed security features in each of these files to prevent further duplication. Some files also have tracking information - which means that if you burn a copy of a CD for your friend, and then he shares it on the internet - it will come back to you. CD's are the way to go - there are a plethora of free CD rippers out there, who will convert your compact disc into the mp3 files (or whichever file type you prefer) you know and love so you can easily put on your iPod without fear. DO NOT STOP BUYING CDS!! They RIAA is going to try to make the tangible CD market obsolete. They can't control you if you have the actual disc. The prices of CDs will increase to encourage digital sales. Thank you for listening to my rant. This all just makes me nervous, and a bit sad. All these artists who picked up their first instrument when they were young - with the dream of "it's all about music" probably never thought it would get like this. again, please provide input - and also - this is a great topic to discuss.[/b] |

I dont know if i agree there. i dont like the RIAA either, them and the MPAA need to be shut down and destroied. But, anyway, i think that is a good theory, i too think buying cd's is the way to go, however, i do get songs from iTunes. At least from there, its easy to just burn them to a music cd, and the rip them as unprotected, untampered mp3s.brbr
