I fully agree. The latest stats say Google accounts for 63% of all Search Traffic in the US. Here in Canada, it's more like 80%, and even higher on niche sites that don't get a lot of traffic.

I think in the UK it is even higher, and demographics vary too. I have some some stats in the region of 90% traffic from Google, and this is from data sets of over 100,000 search referrals.

I really think that Google's success is down to branding, and sticking to their guns. If you look at the home pages of all the major "search engines", one looks like a search engine, and the others look like news/internet portals with a web search feature.
