I'd like to argue against Google Calendar:

1.) It's really fast and everything, as usually from Google, but I honsetly mean that it should be downloadable. There are people who have a dial-up connection (not me btw), and/or don't have time/money to connect.. Or simply they have problems with their connection.. I think bundling calendar into the next version of GDesktop would be a good idea.
2.) I don't like the idea that people can see my programme, and I can see their.. I thought my personal calendar is personal.
3.) And finally, yes, as IamTheKing9 said too, it's not really needed. I don't wanna see google releasing silly products.. That's bloat.. :/ I mean, google almost has all the features needed, it should just improve a bit.. (like finalizing GMail, making orkut faster, making Analytics public, and such)

mondine is an unknown quantity at this point
Your calendar can not be seen by others, unless you choose that option.
I also think it makes more sense to have it online, so that it's accessible from anywhere.
There are plenty of calendars that you can download, if you want.

I'm really starting to like it. Instead of entering an event by filling in form fields you can just type "Dinner with Allen at Sam's Steakhouse at 5:30pm" and it will sort it out. When it is available in my gmail account I hope that it will detect content like that in an email and give me the option of entering it in the calendar. And every member of your, say, fishing group can see the group's acitivty calendar and overlay it on their own personal calendar. It is very practical.

I think that e-mail-content-detecting stuff is interesting, but quite impossible to detect.. :/ Think a bit.. you're e-mailing something history-related.. "Napoleon died at 11:00pm" and calendar will put "Napoleon's death" to 11:00 pm. Great idea, but I think it'd bring some problems up when using.. unless google bundles a grammar analizer with it.. that'd be AI, so it's impossible. :^)

It'd be easy, you open an e-mail. It has a flight book and sees this, then asks whether you'd like to add the booking to the calendar. You've got "use detail" on mobile phones so there's no challenge in getting that information from an e-mail, especially for someone who has as much money as google.

I have tried the google calendar, and it seems to be a really good calendar site. The one thing I am not sure how to do is share the calendars. I went to calendar setting and made the calendar shared for anyone. Then I went to the calendar setting to the XML link. When I clicked on the like it wanted be to download something called "basic" I am thinking that the code for the sharing feature is not working correctly. Has anyone else been able to share the calendar?

My main goal is to place a form of the calendar on my personal website's front page. I can do this with calendarhub and other online calendar. But I really like the way that the google calendar works.

You don't need to click on the link. The link is to be given to your friends or people you want to see your calendar. RSS is to be used in a RSS reader. Ical to be used in a ICal product (obvious ).
Once your calendar is public it's also accessible to anybody through the "Other Calendars" interface in Google Calendar.

RTFMF

Though I don't know for the website publication. Maybe somebody else can help you on that?

Now I don't know why it doesn't allow me to set a reminder for many of my events. It says it only allows reminders for your primary calendars. Does that mean those listed as "my calendars" vs. "other calendars"?

Nop, that means only the events on the first calendar, the first in your "My Calendar" list. That is the one automatically created by Google Calendar.
Personally I think this restriction sucks and I don't understand why they did that !

I am starting to like being able to paste infomation into an event's description. This could simply mean pasting phone numbers, business hours and notes into the box. I never realized what was missing from a conventional paper calendar or planner. But I would love to be able to print out my day's agenda in detail including everything I paste into the descriptions box. I'll email google.
