GIM Gmail Instant Messenger

What if Gmail made their own IM? Discuss. I was on the www.gmailforums.com and there was a good article concerning Gmail and GIM.

I think GMail should be email only. I'm not sure why, I just don't think Google should have an IM service. There are already too many IM services, and I don't think anyone really wants another client. Also, Email in my opinion has always been a much more professional way to communicate.

I don't think they should make one.

If they do anything in that market it should be to team up with one of the other providers.

idk gim would be cool, but there are to many im services out there allready, if they made it so all of them worked togather with there program and it was free, that would be very interesting.

Kinda funny when I saw "GIM" here, because a couple years ago I created GIM: GizmoBytes Instant Messenger, GizmoBytes being the computer site I run at www.GizmoBytes.com .

It was programmed in Visual Basic, based on examples I found with Google

It was never anything special, though, so it never made it past beta.

if gmail becomes really popular among even the average joe, then an IM would be appropriate, however at this time, with the majority of users using MSN, it probably wont be successful.
