Why must Google's programs constantly be only for Windows?

As an avid Google fan with an Apple computer, I was surprised that Google would only make its various software programs for Windows. (Picasa, Keyhole, Desktop Search, Google Toolbar, etc.) While I know that Apple computers don't make up a large share of the computer market currently, Google seemed like the company that might favor the underdog. Any other frustrated Mac users out there who are also frustrated about this?

Well it's obvious that Google targets the Windows audience due to a larger userbase, and as such seems to neglect other operating systems. They need to establish a firm following of loyal users at first before expanding their products to other operating systems. They do have Apple Macintosh ports of their existing products in mind, and some of them might already be in development. I know you guys are frustrated because the friendly neighbourhood search company turned business giant doesn't cater to your interests and native platform, but you can't force them to shift their movements to MacOSX's platforms. I'm sure they also have Linux ports in the works, we'll have to wait and see what Google puts out in the market in the future .

Eric -- I whole heartily agree with you assessment -- this would be a simple business decision, really simple. The really bad news for you Crypto, IMO, is that now that Google is a public company they have no choice - must - have to go after the biggest slice of the pie; they owe that to their investors... I believe they will be more respective to Mac then some of the others, but the fact remains the "largest piece of the pie" will dominate... Actually being an OLD mac fan - I will and have always put the lack of "extras" for MAC squarely on MAC's shoulders.

Money versus Mac

I agree with your ideas, but I believe that the Mac program issue is a question of money versus matter. Will a business pay more to adapt its programs to Mac and thus satisfy the Mac users? Or, will they focus their efforts on the largest marketing group available-those with Windows- and disgruntle the Mac users. Most corporations take the latter, and personally, I don't blame them. Considering that Google's just gone public, they don't have the time or the money (yet) to adapt their programs for Mac. Until Google is safe and secure, I think I can survive without the Google Desktop Search and rely on other programs. Barely.

GoogleX - This is a Macintosh-friendly version of Google websearch. It's a sign that Google actually is concerned about it's Mac-using googlers. It verifies what I said about ports and adaptations of Google's services to the Apple Macintosh platform being in the works. Credit goes to Mike AkA Don for finding the url to "GoogleX". You can expect more Macintosh-native products and services from google in the near future .

Never fear, people, Google looks out for people, unlike Microsoft, who just tells you to switch to Windows. They have always been saying that they hope to reach out to Mac and Linux users, and like Eric said, they're probably working on it. However, I think they're focusing more on developing tons of features like Google Maps and Gmail first.

I agree they are better then most -- when resources are tight and you have to choose -- money (PC's) win.
