Google Web Hosting supported by AdSense
At this time, this is only a rumor. There are no facts to substantiate that idea that Google may someday offer its own web hosting service.
If Google offers web hosting, there's little doubt: they will win, if they carry it out as well as they did Gmail. Web hosting is a fragmented market - that is, even the largest web hosting providers have less than 5% of the market. There are easily more than 10,000 web hosting companies. With Google's past of acquiring successful companies (including their recent acquisition of Urchin statistics), they can enter the web hosting market simply by acquiring a large web host that fits their company's strategy. On the other hand, Google could start from scratch and become a top 10 web hosting company in about six months. The cost of entry is extremely low. Anyone with a web connection can do web hosting, and nobody does it better than Google. Google automatically has a way to advertise their service already. They can toss it on the front page of Google.com, or, more traditionally, simply use their own AdWords service. This requires zero extra advertising spending or investment on their part.. They will leverage Google search to give their hostees the ability to search their site, and offer them AdSense to make money. The revenues from AdSense can also pay for the web hosting service itself, allowing Google to provide free hosting. 1 GB of free space, anyone? Email and web hosting go together. When someone gets a domain name for a custom email address, they also want web hosting. Integrating Gmail and a web hosting service seems likely. They could even provide Gmail for domains, through which users can have custom email addresses but with the Gmail servers. Businesses and consumers do business with brands they trust. Right now, there is no stronger brand than Google.. Then think about Blogger, which Google acquired from Pyra labs.. this is coming together nicely. |

I think it would be a good idea to have Google as a webhost. They could also have a "Free Domain" service. Just make it so that Google puts AdSense ads on the website, and all the user has to do is get 50 or so unique a day, wait untill they get enough money from adsense and get their free domain name. I think this would be a good idea. The idea of a hositng company is also a GREAT idea. It would be the most popular host ever i think. It will also take on Yahoo.

I second you opinion intelliot. Google may definately go for Web hosting. Now they have grown over "JUST A SEARCH ENGINE" company. They do everything in style..
And yes if they start a web hosting company they will allow users to use their service for free but only by invitations. And then we will need a forums like yours to get that invite |
