OK, then you think Gmail offers new things? I suppose you agree, don't you?
Right, why can't we suppose a GMessenger won't offer new things and force the rest of messengers to improve? We have just seen this in email accounts...

i dont think Google should come out with an instant messenger. How are you going to get it? By invite? AOL i think is the biggest and will stay the biggest cause it has so many users.

The only reason why the only way you can get gmail is throung an ivite is becuase they are still in beta testing. If they came out with a GIM it would be beta yes but it would be availble to everyone. Like right noe there is that ugly AIM 5.9 beta. It is nasty. I switched back to an older version.

I believe that GIM is a great feature if it is integrated into GMAIL.

For example, if you are in GMAIL writing an email, you can actually see if the person is online and you can directly send the email to that person right away and request that person to reply instantly.

or theres rumors about google moving towards an OS- if they even made a pretty DECENT messenger, some people would switch and then when it came with the new OS- and other messengers didnt work there- ppl's friends would HAVE to switch so that they could talk to their friends with a GOOGLE OS

i dont think they would plan on it being a huge success on its own, but it would be out there when the time was right if they did an OS

Actually I'd totally use this if they combine it with Hello, and have it support other IM protocols

But I think at the moment out of all the big IM applications no one has everything. MSN has a much better interface (in my opinion) but lacks the ability to post automated responses, so you have to download messsenger plus and dodge all the adware. AIM is getting a bit old and I see my AIM list decreasing everyday and my MSN list just getting bigger and bigger. Yahoo and MSN 7.0 feature "nudges" which at first seemed like a good idea, till I felt like I was having a fit with everyone nudging me the whole time. Also Yahoo and MSN 7.0 just seem so stacked with rather immature features that just clutter up my chatting.
I think Google could conceivably make a very successful IM application and the key points of usability and compatibility have already been mentioned but I think simplicity would be nice to see too. I don't think it would take to long for it to at least hold a reasonable stake in the current market.
(in my opinion)

Yahoo mail, Yahoo Messenger, Friendster

vs

Gmail, GMessenger(?), Orkut, and G-P2P

Hopefully, the messenger google would release would be compact, and have a good file transfer module.
