Free directories - How much traffic?

Hello everybody,

I'd like to ask your opinion about free directories. Is submitting worth the work?

How much traffic do you get from directories? How much from which one? Do they really help to improve your PR?

Any hints or datas are welcome!

thanks

Getting links from a high PR free directory does help your PR. To a search engine, there isn't really much difference between a paid directory or a free directory.

Direct traffic from a directory (free or paid) is often secondary to the SEO benefits that you get from having your site listed. A directory listing is a text link to your site. This will add to your link popularity and search engine ranking. Make sure the directory is search engine friendly (ie static urls).

I have submitted my site to about 200 free directories and I get about one click a day from them. So basically you don't get a lot of traffic from them. On the other hand the links may help your page rank and thus get you more hits...

The main objective behind directory submissions is links. Links go a long way in determining a site's PR. So gaining one way links to your site through directory submissions helps with the site's PR and not much with traffic.

brbrYep, the backlinks are really what makes directory submission worthwhile. A lot of the free directories are PR 4+, so you'll get some good quality links, too.brbrAs far as traffic, the only directory I actually get any visitors from (10-20/month) is Kingbloom (no affiliation). I think it's a paid directory now, but I got in last year when it was free.br

brbrYes, that's right. The more links you have - the more PR you will achieve. Butyou don't need to expect much from minor directories - they give you little PRboost and visitors, but this is better then nothing. In web promotion you needcling to any opportunity to spread out your links on the web. Thisopportunites are - articles directories, directory submission, creating a blog, using URL in forums signature, link exchange, affiliate programs and anotherpopular methods as well. I've information about new service, free report aboutit you can acquire at www.mavericksocializer.com/free-report.html Project based on Web 2.0 techniques, using social bookmarking and tagging. Re: Directories

Directory submission helps you to build a huge network of backlinks. As part of a search engine optimization strategy you should aim to build backlinks up over time. Backlinks not only increase the number of visitors but also helps in gaining a strong position in search engine result pages for your chosen keywords.brbr
