Aside from what they've told you Social Bookmarking Site's can also help you on generating traffic to your site...they use nofollow attribute so they will not help you in regads to PR still they might give you traffic that you can convert into sales...

social bookmarking is the "favoris" but you will store them online not on your computer.
every social bookmarking let you to get web page or more where you can add all the url that you thing are interested to you or you will use them in the future.
you can access to your web page (account) from any computer connected with internet.
other people can have the chance to gte your web page and learn what you are selected or what you are intested in.
they can add your list to their web page.
Search engines consider this is more suitable because web sites are selected by human can have more quality content. different to spider which an automatic algorithm.
