Optimize Your 404 Page?

is it necessary to optimize 404 page... and is it ok if i redirect 404 page to my site to retain traffic..?

Optimize 404 page, I don't think someone would search for 404 on google, so what's the point?

As to redirects, I've seen it on many web sites doing so, I guess it's ok.

Dont waste your time optimizing the 404 page.. if you optimize your site well,, why will you need to use and optimize 404 pages...?

1. Put a link to your FAQ page
2. Put a link to your top level categories
3. Put a link to your sitemap
4. Create a templated 404 page that blends with your site
5. Add a search box
6. Make your 404 pages look as close to your site theme as possible
7. Add a true navigation to your site.

i think the best way is to redirect it to your site map so the visitor would not easily out to your site.

yeah, i guess alex-party is right... visitors don't tend to search for 404 pages... maybe you just have to focus more on your site and keywords...

Just leave as it is without any optimization because i could not see any benefit from 404 page.
