Red face A question by XcellenceIT: Does Yahoo! search engine matter any more?

XcellenceIT team has a question and I decided I should help them by posting the question. Here goes:
Everybody knows that Google is a leader in search engines. But Yahoo! search engine comes right behind him.
Besides my natural question: since all my acquaintances use Google, who are those using Yahoo! search engine after all? , I have another question:
Is it worth it putting efforts in improving for Yahoo! search engine? Google has Sitemaps, Yahoo! has Site Explorer, but is it worth the time to have your web site inserted in both?
OK, you have to make your web site as much W3C-friendly as you can. But Yahoo! search engine friendly?

Frankly, I don't think it's worth the time, but I'm looking for a second opinion.

Any feed-back on this will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Cratima,

I don't know if Yahoo if w3c friendly and I said it before somewhere that I don't actually care about MSN or Yahoo at all. I.e I'm monitoring statistics on 10 web sites and never saw traffic from yahoo or msn. Some web sites are purely USA based and appear on 1-5 positions among 1 -22 millions, so naturally you should expect much greater traffic from yahoo or msn, but it's not so.

So, I would say focus on Google and all other engines will pick up your web site as well, especially MSN, they are eating everything they find on the internet.

That's my opinion

For me Yahoo search engine i still needed for SEO. Still, most of the users still using the Yahoo in searching information of the internet. Yahoo has a lot to offer and has a lot of services to give . There is Yahoo Answer, Classified Ads, Mobile services a lot more.

Yes, I agree with you sheena, it's your truthful right to use services that you like but do you receive traffic from yahoo for your web site? I'd like to know if I'm alone here that has 0 numbers on traffic reports?

And Cratima, I've visited your web site and I've noticed that on your "Portfolio" -> "Web Design" page - you're showing some Royaltee Free Images released by former Stockbyte Company now owned by Getty Images. By displaying images made by other photographers as your own work, you're violating standard license agreement that prohibits use any of the Content as part of a trade-mark, design-mark, trade-name, business name, service mark, or logo; You should read license agreement more carefully.

I'm telling you this as a friend

Hey alex-party,
Thanks a lot for your input on both Google search engine and on Getty Images. I've forwarded your reply to the manager of the company to see about those images.

I found great input on the forum.

on my site, i got still had a traffic coming from yahoo and MSM which that traffic could still convert to revenue but not as big as in Google. so for me it would be better to optimize a site to three SEs.
