I think it depends on free directories... if it's a quality directory should it have a spammy type of link submissions? What do you think? |

For me the difference of paid and free directory is that paid directory can added your site automatically or within 24 hours and your change hundred percent to be listed. While in free directory you need to wait for such a long time maybe a weeks or a month and depend on the site's reviewer. A free directory also strict with the contents of your site and sometimes to your PR in order your site to be listed. But both of them helps to increase traffic.

Yup, free directories are maybe spammy but it's worthy for some and
you can also submit to a high PR directories, about paid ones you are more sure than the free ones, there are lesser spam and get listed fast and you have an assurance that your site are one of the priority site on their directory! |

Directory submission is an optimization strategy that make website link popular and get top ranking in search engine result pages. But you can't expect too much traffic from a directory just a little bit contribution to the improvement of your sites placement in SE.

I agree, free directories follow only one goal -> self promoting, they don't really care about nothing else. You will not gain much from low quality directories anyways. Sometimes it's better to put long term-paid link on a good web site, than 1000 free dirs.

if there's a budget for paid links.. but it's more practical to use free directories... and for those using automated submissions.. how can you make sure if your site is already been there...? for me I'm not satisfied using automated submissions... |
