The thing is that I've heard that Google banns all the web sites that
use paid directories.
A colleague of mine at Cratima Interactive has just sent yesterday an
e-mail to Google to ask for mode details, no answer yet.
Do you know something about this aspect ?

I was under the impression that I will get banned if I submit to monthly paid directory, not the web directory!!!?!?!?
Anyway, it's a strange thing that Yahoo directory takes 299$, and DMOZ ( Google directory ) is free (although, it's a little hard to get listed, I don't know why???).
Why is yahoo directory ( 300/0 =>>>> infinite ) better than DMOZ?????

I've heard Google is penalizing paid link directories, and some directories have been penalized, because Google doesn't like paid links, or those who pay to get into a directory in order to boost their page rank. There are many of those types of directories popping up everyday, Yahoo is a respected and already established directory, so its known that they're not offering paid links for the purpose of getting higher page rank. You will have to search for this a little more on your own. You're site won't get banned by paying for these links, but you're eventually paying for a link in a directory that's not returning any value to your site because that directory itself is being penalized by Google.

That is excellent news!
Personally, I think (most of the time) poorly maintained directories are useless for common people in the matter that they are just dead links.
