difference between internal and external links

guys, do the two are different? because gg count the two in diff. value.
how does they say that internal and external links are the same?

1) internal link - the one on your web site.
2) external link - the one outside your web site.

Oh jeez.

Internal links are links which point to pages on the same site as the page the link is on. External links point to entirely different sites.

I think Potchie intended to say hw could google consider multiplelinks frm same site and other links r same?...for example if GC has 3 pages in the result for srch term "GOOGLINX"(or ne other) n someother site say example.com has one page...then google shows total results as 4 considering ewach page of GC as an individual entity giving it equal status with example.com
