Forum postings helps if you attached your signature links.. This signatures are links pointing to your site....

Look at my signatures below...That's sample of signature post in forums..Almost all forums have this kind of postings...

You can change yous signatures on your user cp...

You need to get a backlinks or links from high pagerank pages. And backlinks from pages with less than 20 other links. Link only trusted sites like .edu and .gov site.

Do first the on-page optimization before you proceed to off-page optimization. It's useless if you go directly to off-page optimization.

Not exactly useless when you do the off-page optimization even if you didn't do the on-page yet...Well the fact that other SEO said that the meta tags now is useless it gives us a hint that weather what is the first you do (on or off) is doesn't matter....However it is good to do on-page first so that your site can be crawl easily especially the images using alt...and also on-page is not only meta tags there is a more to it so do it first....
