Yup, Its very important to put your anchor text at the forum and in the directory to achieve your rank at SERP.

Think of a content such as videos, games anything that will catch interest of your visitors. This will surely leads to referrals and natural backlinks.

You may also exchange links with authority sites that are relevant to your site too, most preferable those popular sites. good luck!
