Linkbait, is good or not?

Well I have read it an article on seochat about link bait, my question to you is what you think about link bait, is it good for your site or not, some say it is some say is not....
what is the risk here?

In my opinion it is good if you have nice informative and usefull content, otherwise your visitors might just press the close button or tab of the browser .

Link bait can be good if you intend to use it as a good strategic way such as using a free downloads or a good information for your visitors. but it ca be bad as well, in the other term of link bait its an evil sister of Link Love.

Defiantly good it helps out a lot when tracking visitors via Google analytics goals

Well it would really depend on how you will use it. If you think you don't have enough knowledge on that, better get to read few articles about it first.
