It has a purpose that's why Google don't dumped it. And it is the trademark of Google making it unique from other SEs.

Even though many SEO's don't give much importance on PR anymore, Google won't dump PR that easily...
As for my estimation I think 1/4 disregards PR while 3/4 still gives value to it...

page rank has became a mark in world wide web the higher the pr the better and the more people want to get link with you it is also an indicator how stable your website.

And if you look at it from another angle: Every search engine need to give a query independent rank to every page. Otherwise any crappy page with keywords filled in will come above an authentic page. Every search engine must have a way to rank the pages based on its polularity and importance. Google calls it PR, others call it something else and hide it!

Agree with that, PR is the standard way of Google in addressing the relative importance of every websites on the internet. Yahoo have also developed their way of ranking websites and its called "Yahoo Web Rank". But it still can't match Google PR yet...
