My understanding is that ALT tags are important and contribute to keyword density.

alt tags in images in a way contribute to keyword density but i dont know with regards to keyword effectiveness

They help when people are using Google Image Search. Some of my traffic comes from images.

Yes, you're quite right,

I always use the ALT tags and quite a lot of my traffic is through Image searches!

It really helps to put descriptions and other keywords on your images because a lot of people search for images. If your alt text is relevant and well-worded, it usually ends up in the first page of image results.

same here we have the same experience.. if you want to have a traffic come from your images,using alt tags really help.. its a matter telling the Se whats the image about..

putting KWs in Alt attribute in image tags brought bunch of traffic...
and I proved that in my blog...
however is that traffic is a quality one???
I just a bit confused...

ALT attributes is the description of your image.. because it will desribe what image is all about.

Not only that, it's also the only thing that search engines can read when an image is concerned.
