Javascript menus & SEO

I was just wondering how Javascript menus affect how search engine spiders crawl your website.

If you take a look at the site I run (link in my signature), you can see the menu has got quite cluttered as new content has been added.

If I was to implement a JavaScript menu (hovering over a link brings up a sub-menu), would search engine spiders be able to crawl this menu structure as easily as the simple one I have now?

Let me know if you need me to explain my question better. Cheers!

None of the search engines read javascript - so anything to add any keywords will be a waste of time. (SEO wise)

OK, thanks for your advice. Looking at my site, then, what would you suggest for a new menu structure?

i believe google is reaching the stage where it can read and understand javascript. so if I where you, I wouldn't really worry seo-wise. you just have to think of your customers too. if it helps the customers when you use javascript, then use them.

I am convinced that accessible javascript menus.
For example the ones here: http://www.udm4.com/

Why? First of all Google likes accessible pages: http://webstandardsgroup.org/resourc...accessibility/

and second read here about: "SEO - A Positive Influence on Web Accessibility"

At http://www.bigmouthmedia.com you can download a free paper as PDF or as zipped HTML files which intends to show how search engines through their algorithms and SEO, as a popular marketing technique, have led to a growing interest in making web content more accessible.

It will also raise awarness among the SEO community of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines published by W3C.

Or did I get something wrong?

Just because Google likes things all accessible, it doesn't mean it reads Javascript. Also, ever hear of the term sitemap?

Either way, go ask Google.
