301 Moved Permanently has killed ranking.
Hi All,
I had a site that had a ranking of 3 for its mydomain.com address and a ranking of 0 for its www.mydomain.com address. I modified the dynamic server code to redirect any URL that was not www.mydomain.com to www.mydomain.com with the understanding that it would not cause any problems with googlebot. I looked at the web server log and googlebot appears to be doing the correct thing, i.e. it gets redirected, reads robots.txt once at the www.mydomain.com address and then reads the pages it is supposed to as defined by robots.txt. However, I have not only lost my ranking but it appears that I am not being searched for at all. I am using a '301 Moved Permanently' to do the redirection on non www.mydomain.com URLs. Any ideas? Thanks in advance. |
