the layout is good. but i suggest you work on the graphics. specially the "join now", "read", "write" .... images. they are way too big! also, consider using a background color or a background image for the left- and right-hand side whitespace.

I like the website and it'll look more good if you resize that big button...and you still have much blank spaces on your website..try to use them with some features.
