Gloog.net
Please give me some reviews on my sites:
Some people have emailed me saying I need more image edits on gloog.net ...any suggestions for any? My sites: www.gloog.net http://forum.gloog.net Also I would like to know: How much do copyrights cost...most sites are now copyrighted, but are copyrights not very expensive for someone to buy...do some people just say that their site is copyright when it actually isn't? Edit: URLs updates |

Hey, well I started learning CSS a couple of days ago, and I've completely redesigned the site. It even has a different purpose
I'm a bit worried about the change of purpose, because I've submitted to DMOZ with the other purpose. I'd really like some suggestions on it because I'm very new to CSS layouts, and I want to improve Here's a link again. Gloog. |

Well, I have to admit that I was a bit startled to see this thread reappear, and thought you might be doing some sneaky bumping.
But I see you've been quite busy, indeed. I think the re-purposing is a good idea. This should go a long way in developing your skills, that seem to have increased considerably since the thread was first posted. The idea is good, and your site layout and navigation is pretty good, too. But I'd do a bit of fine tuning. Now, I know this is a matter of personal taste and style, but frankly I don't much care for your logo or menu. I just don't like the font that much, the logo needs some punch and style, and why is the menu black and white? I'd also work out the layout of the pages so that the text falls into neater blocks. It needs a bit of a cleaner, well-ordered look, to really look professional. But the ideas behind the site are sound, and I think you're on the right track. And offering your services for free is a nice thing, for all concerned. I have no doubt that It will grow and improve, and I wish you the best of luck with it. You're a great member of, and friend to, this community, so if there's any way that you think I could be of assistance, feel free to let me know. |

Yes, the menu definetely needs changing, and the one which is there at the moment will probably not stay. I've gone through quite a lot of menus trying to get a good design for it.
To make things easier, I just added request forms, where you fill out all the details etc, making things a lot easier (no more having to open up email clients etc.). Here is a selection of previous menus - the current one will be getting added there soon :P http://www.gloog.net/oldmenu.jpg http://www.gloog.net/menu_old.jpg http://www.gloog.net/greenmenu.jpg |

Yes, the "mailto" link's a good idea. Since I started using Gmail, I hardly open my email client, anymore.
( You just managed to get that word "templates" on that menu, didn't you? |

So you think I should keep the mailto link? The forms I was talking about are on the 'templates' page, and the 'websites' page. And yes I did manage to fit templates on - just. If it hadn't fitted, I would have just made the menu again
I was thinking of getting rid of the 'mailto:' link, and just adding an email form page, where all you do is type the message you want to send a text area, then click send - that way it's very simple for the user (they don't have to open up any extra windows etc, and I don't get spambots crawling my email address. |

Yes, I think you should keep the mail link. As far as the bots go, they're not quite as bad as having the address bare nekkid on the page. Forms are handy, but some people can be put off, or find them too restrictive.
There are some fairly simple ways of handling the spam. One is to set up a separate account for that site's mail. Put an instruction to include a key word in the subject, and have a filter on that account to trash mail without the word, and forward the rest to your real account. Cheap and easy. |
