Orkut, is it worth it?

Recently I have been trying to get more info on Orkut. I have to say that the info available on orkut.com is pretty sketchy. So it is worth it? I see around here a lot of requests for invitations, but not much comments on Orkut itself.

A google search turns out a few negative comments about orkut, but they are mostly from close to its early days in January/February. A few months later, is there a sense that it is a growing only community? Should I join the crowd of begger for an invitation?

So I have been trying Orkut for a few days now (thanks intelliot for the invittation!). I have been generally impressed by the interface and number of active communities available. But I'm still learning my way around, and haven't tried yet to increase my circle of friends.

The one thing I'm a bit confused still is about the communitiies and new posts. Is there a way to see which posts are new since the last time you logged in? I really find it arkward that when you login and then go to your communities, you have to mentally remember when is the last time you were online before figuring which communities you should go to; then in each of them, when you view the forum, you have to do the same to find out in each threads for which there are posts you haven't read yet. There must be a better way to keep on top of all the new posts. Is there?

I tried Orkut for a while, and I never really got into it. Regular forums like these seem to feel more like a community than those forums.

Since i just got a invite not less than four days ago i really cant put too much thought into it. But i will say so far, its not worth it at FIRST. First off it is really slow. Being affilated with Google you would think it would be fast, but it isnt. Second, to me it was kind of confusing at first, but that changed quickly as looked around these communities and started navagating threw them. I thought to myself, most of the top communities are from Brazil, wow. Its hard looking for the right one to join. Thats how far i got in about 3 days. Once i start adding friends to this, it should be easier for me to be there since i will know these people. I will keep you posted on my expirences!

SOrry for the double posting there. Last night around 2:30-3:00 am est, googlecommunity, this website, i swear was slower than okurt last night. At one point it took me about 30 mins or more just to go from page to page and to post. Dont know but maybe it needs to be fixed. lol No really it was bad, might want to look into it if you havent already. Otherwise i am still looking at orkut and its features. Keep you all updated!

I like Orkut for the most part--but it is a bit clunky- Is there any way to search the communities for topics you're interested in? The only search I have found applies to finding particular types of people you may be looking for. It is too slow tabbing through page after page when you do find a category you like. This forum is wayyy better. Thanks intelliot!

Brazilians account for more than half of Orkut's members. Then come the US, Iran, India and Estonia.
