I don't know... I bought an invitation at the store so i'm going to check it out... I am a member of friendster and I like it alot... alot of great features... and alot of people... for now I think Friendster would be better just for the fact that there are more people on friendster... If Orkut starts adding sign ups than there would be more people... That's the reason I think Friendster is better... Orkut will get way more popularity when it comes public... Just for the fact that it's affiliated by google...

I tried Friendster... all I did was set up the account without putting up a picture or filling out much of the profile. Now I'm getting a bunch of letters from women who claim I'm just utterly fascinating and want me to write to them... but only to their personal addresses, not through Friendster. In other words, answering them would a) yield an invitation to join their personal smut site at big dollars per month and b)result in a ton of spam from various unseemly outfits.
I believe I'll pass on Friendster. Not sure about Orkut, either, but at least it doesn't seem like a spam-o-rama yet. |

Orkut has many features, but it's invite-only and still in beta, so it's slow and buggy at the moment. It has a more detailed profile, ability to join communities and most of the features features friendster has. I haven't used it extensively yet but I believe it'll be better than friendster after it's fully finished.
Friendster is popular, open to everyone and very easy to use. But it's usage is rather basic and limited, and as MassZero mentioned before, there are alot of shallow people on friendster that will message/add you just because you have a pretty face. There are many people using fake photos (usually female photos) that have 500 friends (95% of which they don't even have a clue who they are) and tons of testimonials in ascii writings like Cool, Pretty, Cute and so on Anyway, there are several other similar services, so it's up to personal taste. |
