No, when they say 'bad server', they mean it.
Usually, it just means that they're either busy, or just tinkering with things.

Not your fault, and nothing you can do about it, but try again. People get this a lot (and complain about it plenty).

I agree with Mondine, if you get the "bad.. server, no donut".. message, you should try again immediately. It could take several attempts. If you copy and paste your email address or Sir name .. make sure you have not left a blank space at the beginning of the box. Orkut's popularity continue's, so the servers become overloaded, upgrades occur and repairs are needed...lastly Orkut, is still in beta status, so these problems are to be expected.

I get it all the time. I've just stuck with www.bebo.com because everyone has it and it is much easier to use than Orkut and never comes up with error messages. Orkut is the only Google program I don't like.

It has been working fine for me for about a week now Maybe google fixed the problem...it took me about an hour to sign up because of the 'bad server', but if you just keep refreshing the page it works eventually

I have noticed that I'm getting fewer of these errors, but they have not gone away completely. So Google has not completely fixed the problem yet.

But it is at least more manageable. I'm personally more concerned about the magnitude of obvious TOS violations I see, along with the many people who rudely ignore requests by some communities to post in English only.

The whole idea of "trusted" network is made a sham by the percentage of people with profiles that have bogus names. I suspect there are a large number of people with more than one profile. It seems to me unlikely that over 4% of the population of Brazil would be on Orkut.

Of course you get no donuts: the orkut server is probably upgraded only when Google is about to trash an old machine... I mean, why would they invest more on this site if most users are from a market (Brazil) that is [apparently] not interesting for Google from a business standpoint?
