the use of umpires-cricket

hi friends,

i just wanted to know the use of umpires in cricket, present day cricket.
i feel that umpires are not needed becauseumpires can turn the tide around in a match.
when the umpire gives a decision,it may be wrong and that wrong decision can turn the whole story.
the match becomes totally unfair.
supposing during the world cup finals or during any trophy matches,if an umpire declares a person out when he is not out, then it makes a big difference,it changes the result of the match.
the umpires have been making mistakes constantly and that affects the whole game and its popularity.
why arent the board members looking into the problem, especially when there is the third umpire which is computerised and gives the right decision.
when the right decision is not given, how can players the game in the right spirit, they lose their chance to prove themselves.

Hey, Arun, don't double-post. You could be banned for it.
As for your question, I feel its totally justified. Umpires are not really needed in cricket, except for providing employment.
Technology has developed so much that we can have a computer examine the replays to judge whether a person is out or not out.
Or, there could be only a third umpire, who could be referred to as the umpire.
LBW and run-out decisions and a decision on any other controversial thing could be made by him.
There's really no need for an on-field umpire. So, I agree with you.

There still needs to be an element of human input.
If anything, the umpires cause a talking point.
Once you start taking the umpire out of things, things become less enjoyable.

For example, say someone kicks the stump.
How will the computer know it was a player and not a ball?

hello there andrew,

nothing is going to happen if someone kicks the stumps or something.
the third umpire can easily find it out because there are cameras located everywhere!!!!!!!!!
cameras are even located in the stumps!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
and thats good but the thing is that
one wrong decision spoils a bright cricketers whole career and thats too bad
and worst of all the umpires go on giving wrong decisions.

hi andrew,

well the third umpire is a computer
and that is why i especially said that the umpire will find it out,i mean the third umpire.
if you see a cricket match you will find that there are hundreds of cameras located in different places.
so i suppose that it supports my statement that we dont need umpires in cricket because,
when there is technology why do we have to spoil a persons life and decrease the popularity of such a great sport.
so friends,i say that TECHNOLOGY ROCKS!!!!!

But the computer can't tell that someone kicked the stumps, or a player, or murdered someone on the field.

well andrew,

the third umpire, that is the computer knows everything.
the latest technology offers everything.
if you have seen cricket matches, there are cameras situated everywhere, absolutely everywhere
so its clearly visible and anyway a player wouldnt murder another player,it will spoil his whole career.

Hmm... I don't know whether you understood Andrew or not, Arun, but what he says is something worth mentioning.
Technology hasn't evolved to such a level that a computer can differentiate between a ball and a leg, really.
That's precisely why I also mentioned in my earlier post here that there could be a third umpire (a real human, that is).
But there's no doubt about the fact that the on-field umpires aren't of much use.
