the banning of mohammad asif and shoaib akhthar

hi friends,

well i just wanted to know whether how many of you think that the ban of shoaib akhthar and mohammad asif
was a right decision to be taken or not.
well in my opinion,i would rather say that the two year ban on shoaib akhthar is too bad and especially unfair,
that thing is going to spoil hiscareer,i mean he was a great bowler and a great asset for pakistan with his fiery pace bowling,i mean noone has ever bowled as fast as him, whatever it is the 2 year ban wasabsolutely unfair in my opinion.
and then thebanon mohammad asif,i suppose he sort ofdeserves it because as fas i know he took the banned drug nandralone on purpose to enhance his perfomance and thats too bad.
well,i would love to get in your views anddiscuss more about this.

I have no clue who they are, but I'm sure the cricket council (or whoever the official cricket body is), had good reasons for banning them.

Well, in my opinion, the ban was absolutely fair. Shoaib Akhtar and Mohammad Asif got what they deserved.
The International Cricket Council's laws says that a person testing positive for banned substances should be given a one-year ban at least.
If the two people in question did test positive, they obviously had to be banned.
Asif's career isn't going to be affected much, because he's still young. However, he was lucky to get only a one-year ban.
But I suppose Akhtar might not make it back, given his age.
All the same, Mohammad Asif and Shoaib Akhtar got what they deserved.

I partially agree wid Anirban [Iamtheking9] that it is fair...............
Asif deserved it i feel. and should get 1 yr ban

but with an interview with Shohaib in NDTV he confidently told that he had never broken rules of Cricket.

Moreover he said that he had never taken drugs in his life and if the test was positive then there has 2 be sum mistake coz he never took drugs intentionally.

He also crtisized the PCB [Pakistan Cricket Board] that they said said there was a doctor on the tour [accordin 2 him there was no doctor]

About the rumours that he had slapped Bob Woolmer, Pakistan's coach, were also false he said.

Well, I hardly suppose that Akhtar can be believed. Dope test results can hardly be faked.
Plus, Asif also said that he hadn't taken any drugs. So how come you're not saying anything for him?
This is all a result of the respect (be it false or not) Akhtar has gained in his fans.
Nevertheless, one or two rumours of his alleged "badness" always seem to be doing the rounds.
The only way this dispute can be solved is to have a third-party or the ICC examine the test results.
Akhtar's alleged slapping of Bob Woolmer and his saying that his team didn't have a doctor are totally different issues.
Let's not mix them up.

Well, that dispute can't be solved unless Bob Woolmer says something about it.

I meant that unless Bob Woolmer says whether the incident really took place or not, this dispute will keep raging.
After all, we've only heard Akhtar's version of the events. If Bob Woolmer says that Akhtar didn't really slap him, then its all right.
If he says that Akhtar did really slap him, it'll be too bad for Akhtar. But you're right, let's forget this and stick to the actual topic.
