IMHO, text glows suck. It really adds no functionality. It's just for looks; if you use IE for that, you're sacrificing memory and speed for a proprietary text effect that is not standards-compliant. I don't mind if the Firefox team does not add this "feature".

I do occassionally use IE for those things and for testing, but Firefox is my default browser for everything else. The glow effect is included with the store mod, and leave it for those who may want it

I only use IE for watching good layouts I've made fall apart and me having to sacrifice things to make it look right.

Isn't it a great feeling though, when you create a layout and switch to IE, and you don't have to make any drastic changes!

I just get this warm happy feeling inside, like I've accomplished the impossible.

One thing that doesn't really surprise me, but annoys me, is that Firefox can't handle pages that were designed with Microsoft Office. I don't know whether FrontPage just doesn't know HTML, or if the "proprietary" markup is intentional, unavoidable or somehow desirable, but it results in webpages with 20 or so different objects laid on top of one another such that none is visible, let alone useful.

I've briefly examined some of the source for one of these sites, and sure enough, it was done in FrontPage. The place works in IE, but for some reason (that I can't quite figure out), it fails miserably with Firefox. I depend on the page for one of my classes, so it's quite a pain.

Also, in the same vein, Firefox 1.0 has taken a step backward in terms of how it deals with JavaScript. It used to be that I could open JS popup windows on every site I visited, but not so anymore. I've tried disabling pop-up blocking/single-page mode, but to no avail. Although I was finally able to get one site to work by adjusting some settings with one-page mode, the others still don't work.

It's a funny thing about the new version of Firefox, because some things have been improved (find on page, some extensions, some security stuff), but I seem to get less functionality with 1.0 than with 0.9. On the up side, the upgrade was the smoothest I've ever experienced with any program, Firefox or otherwise.

Damn straight.
In linux there is a great programme, similar to FrontPage (not exactly like it, as I said is was great) called Bluefish. It's for lazy people like me...

Yeah, it doesn't surprise me, intelliot.

Never heard of Bluefish, though. But why do I have the sneaking suspicion that its code won't work in IE? :P
