Visitor Stats Anomaly
The organisation I work for has recently had Google analytics added to it's main website, however it has become apparent that there is a huge discrepancy with the visitor stats.
One day last week the server side stats package was telling us that there were 8,997 visitors whereas Google analytics gave a reading of 2,220. Can anyone tell which one I should trust? |

I'm new to Google Analytics, but I think the reason might be that Google does not count robots since robots do not reference javascript.
We have a similar set up with our company site and our stats read similar to yours. After checking the referring urls on our server side stats - I saw that alot of them were robots - alot of which were internally generated by tests run by our programmers. So I would also trust the Google stats! |
