Speed up FireFox!

Quote:
If you don't have FireFox yet get it here!

Quote:
1.Type “about:config” into the address bar and hit return. Scroll down and look for the following entries:

network.http.pipelining network.http.proxy.pipelining network.http.pipelining.maxrequests

Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading.

2. Alter the entries as follows:

Set “network.http.pipelining” to “true”

Set “network.http.proxy.pipelining” to “true”

Set “network.http.pipelining.maxrequests” to some number like 30. This means it will make 30 requests at once.

3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it “nglayout.initialpaint.delay” and set its value to “0”. This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it receives.

browser.turbo.enabled True

If you’re using a broadband connection you’ll load pages MUCH faster now!

Unfortunately for avid users of Firefox versions below v.1.0, like me, FireTune is incompatible . I definately won't be upgrading just for getting to use FireTune though. All the versions before v.1.0 are superior, more feature-rich and less buggy.

Hmm...that is an interesting idea. However, isn't firefox already fast enough? I mean, I have DSL and on DSL I really probably wouldn't notice any difference. The websites already load really quickly.

If Mozilla Firefox does speed up, how much does it actually speed up by? Is it really worth the trouble of going through these many steps to make it faster?

I'm using a DSL connecion myself, and it is faster because of this little hack. It's a small file (297k) to download and you only have to tick on your connection speed once the program is running, then you just press the "Tune it" button. You can also set your configuration back to the way it was before hand by clicking a button, if your not happy with the results.
