Internet Explorer 7 on the way

Just thought I would let you know.

Quote:
Microsoft is planning a new version of Internet Explorer for Windows XP SP2.
The new version of IE, which will be released for preliminary testing this summer, will have new protections against viruses, spyware and "phishing" scams, which fool users into entering sensitive information on Web pages that appear to be legitimate.

Internet Explorer's share of the browser market has dropped by 5% over the last six months, with many users flocking to Firefox. Still, there's no indication whether Internet Explorer 7 will offer features like tabbed browsing in addition to its new security measures.

Thanks Darrenstraight, It will be interesting to see the new features and test how it performs. Yes, the battle of the browsers continues to be alive and well.

The year is 1994. The only browser in the industry is Mosaic. It enjoyed it's stint as the first web browser for a short while. Enter 1995. Microsoft releases the first version of it's Internet Explorer product followed by Netscape(now part of AOL)'s Netscape Navigator. The two browsers are the main contestants in the market due to their vast array of features compared to other lesser known browsers. The two browsers duke it out until circa 1999, when Internet Explorer emerges the winner due to the incorporation of various new features, but good things come at a cost. The HTML-parsing engine used by IE was not W3C-compliant. IE enjoyed it's dominant position till 2002, when a new browser developed by the Mozilla foundation named "Firebird" was born. It had many new features which had yet to be implemented into Internet Explorer. "Firebird" was soon after renamed to what we know and love today as 'Firefox' and it had a catchy slogan to boot: "Take back the web!". Not only was it fully compliant with the W3C standards, it had improved on such features like tabbed browsing by a whole lot compared to other browsers. As of yet, the popularity of Firefox is increasing by the day, and IE's market share is dropping at a parallel rate.
And THAT is how I remember the web since '94 when I first came into contact with the internet .
I better save that short history of browser wars I made into a .txt file....
