Visitor number decline
Hi
Our website had a severe decline in visitor number over September - about 60% less than other months. I am trying to find reasons to try and understand what the issue might have been. There wasn't any change in our usual e-marketing strategies, so I cannot find any solutions to this. We still had some visitors so there was no downtime of the site - just an overall daily decline for the month. Can anyone offer some suggestions around this occurence? Luckily, our numbers are increasing now. I would just like to understand why this happened so it can be avoided in future. |

Hi Alex
Thanks for replying. We had a steady growth in numbers up to about 400 visitors a week till the end of August. After hitting the 400 mark - we dropped in the next week (beginning Sep) to 97 and declined in number till the end of the month to 76 visitors. Since the first week in October our numbers have increased to more than double each week. any ideas? |

Yip - it is quite a big decline and I am having no luck understanding what happened there.
The website is Alchemex - Business Intelligence. Simply - its a BI reporting solutions company. At first we thought it might have been a drop in our internal staff going onto the website since we are on dynamic IPs, and cannot be excluded on GA visitor stats, and during that period our internet connectivity was limited. But when I view the regions that the visitors came from when our numbers were high - it is not our area and so not internal employees. The numbers for our regions wasn't affected much. Our numbers are up again - thankfully. But I need to understand why this happened else I feel I will never fully grasp Google Analytics. |

Hi,
Indeed, that's a huge drop, have you checked your position in Google when there was a drop? Maybe your site dropped in searche for some reason. There is a good way to find this out. Have a look at most frequent keyword your page had received most traffic and then see if that keyword brought you the same amount of traffic during drop period. Also, try analyzing traffic sources and you may find the reason. Regards, |
