Comparing Visitors from 1 month to previous month(s)

I would like to compare the visitors (and other things as well) data from the current month to say the previous 6 months or even 12 months.
But not in the sense that I am comparing 1 months totals to those of 6 or 12 months, but more that I am comparing 1 month to each of the previous 6 or 12 months.

Is this possible in Google Analytics?

On your dashboard there is a date range box in the top right corner. Click on the down arrow to open up a drop-down menu. In there you can set date ranges and compare to past date ranges of your choice.
