Firefox Gets Long-Awaited Gift, Google Toolbar

Softpedia News[/url]]Maybe this week?

Fritz Schneider, one of Google’s engineers, has posted an announcement on Mozilla’s website, saying that we should expect a Google Toolbar version for Firefox to be released quite soon.

Google’s interest for Firefox is well known, but such a project hasn’t been developed up until now, even though Google Toolbar for IE has been around for about 4 years now.

Schneider believes that Google Toolbar for Firefox will be released on July 7 and will have just about the same facilities as its IE version, except for the Pop-up blocker, which is already integrated in the Firefox.

Most recent Web analysis studies have pointed out that Firefox has increased its market share, which is now estimated at between 10 and 12% of the browser market.

The fact that Google has decided to launch this application can be seen as yet another confirmation of Firefox’s increasing impact.

A few weeks ago, IBM recommended to its employees to use the browser from the Mozilla Foundation, and Yahoo has launched several months ago a version of its toolbar compatible with Firefox.

Some people are going as far as to say that Firefox’s increasing success has forced Microsoft to launch Internet Explorer 7.0 earlier than planned.

I guess this is some good news, but I have used the open source Google toolbar (which google itself has been recommending) and twas good as well. I wonder if the offical toolbar will have any extra features.

I personally have found it not too useful since FX already has the Google search as default and intergrated pop-up blocker. I never use the Page Rank and Highlighting so though i'm quite chaffed about a Google toolbar for FX, i don't think I'll be needing it.

It is interesting to see the Google Tool bar for firefox !I feel that more life has come to fire fox.

May be I do not have use Internet Explorer now for seeing the page ranking and other stuff.I wish that Google must launch their own browser & instant messenger now to become a complete internet company. How is the idea of buying /mixture of Firefox & Skype .

I still hope they could come up with a new version or patch that will allow user to use google toolbar's page rank on firefox behind a firewall.

The googlebar for firefox is good, but I still prefer the horizontal pagerank bar in IE, to the vertical one in Firefox.

I have the Alexa bar installed at the bottom for the Horizontal bar in FF.

Its pretty cool so far. It has some useful features, such as one link to my gmail account, searching groups and as I type spell checking.

I installed the googlebar to my firefox but
had a problem, the bookmarks of sites that
need a username and password to open did not
work any longer. I had to remove the google
bar from my browser.
