linking css to html?

Can anyone help?

I have added my header and footer to my new webpage and they work well. I have tried to add a css file which I copied from another file but it has no effect once uploaded to the site. The programming is fine since it works on another webpage. Any ideas much appreciated.

You should give more details.
You probably didn't include the CSS correctly.

Do you have similar code ?
Code:
<link href="style.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" />

Cheers for the reply lordspace.
I have this code yes <link href="css/bass.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" media="screen"/> and also have this <!--
@import url(css/sitemap.css);
--> which obviously does what it says. But when I copy an existing file into the above css and upload it to the server it has no effect. I should probably ask the programmers to do it but I'm enjoying tweaking around with it.
