is this a good way to promote dhtml menu builders?

actually my company have a product too that is a dynamic menu builder, so im talking about

this sincerely.

some software producer inserts a line of codes like "producted by xxxx" and their website

address (in hyperlink or not) into menus that produced using thier builder, usually the

customer dont realize this and it does not do any bad to the menus.

i'm only ask here what do you think of this, is this commen or not?

or does this mean an unfair competition, as many websites using his menu is a hiding

promotion to this menu builder and the producer easily win lots of backlinks -- even their

customers never know about it.

personal opinion

I think if the customer is paying for this type of product, that the company should not infringe on the website design and try to get some revenue out of it. If it was something like a free version, then I would feel that it's more justified.

Also, wouldn't the customer be able to remove that hyperlink/text if he decided to regardless of whether the menu generator program puts it in?

What you have to remember killerpants is that most people using this to make DHTML menus are using it because thier knowledge of HTML and JS is low, that means that they might not know how to recognise the hyperlink tag. Not to mention that these menus may use a very basic scrambler to deter causual modification / stealing on thier code.
