hosting songs

guys if i host songs in my sites album and stuff using that can be played by real player (.rm .ram .ra) would that be any federal or licinse problem? or it is just ok doing that?

Nowadays it's just mp3 sites and files that are being targetted, but I can't say for certain hosting Real Media files would be safe. My suggestion is to keep it safe and host streaming audio rather than the actual songs, and include a small disclaimer about the songs.

But then if you had made or remixed the songs yourself, you're pretty much entitled to put it up on your site without any problems.

BRyou mean like adding a voice to the song saying my site name and stuff like that?

cause i have a big collection of songs and i wanted to host them in my site, i've seen alot of sites do that but i don't know if its just uploading or need any licinse

Not really. That still doesn't make it legal, since most of the song is still intact.

Go for streaming music if you want to stay on the safe and legal side. Anything else may not be legal. Besides, hosting these songs needs quite a lot of bandwidth if you're expecting a lot visitors.
