Is it possible to make folders in gmail like it is in yahoo email?  I really like that option.

No, you can just use labels, but the result is similar.

Well that's a bummer.  Hopefully google catches up to yahoo in that respect and makes it so that u can make folders in your gmail.  That would be great.  Oh well, yahoo has had a big headstart so it's understandable.

I have to agree, I like the labels idea but it would be nice to be able to move stuff out of the main folders.  I get too much stuff going on, I just want to look at some of it without having to click on a label.

What do you mean, BookWyrm? That you want to view e-mails that are in a folder by clicking on a folder name, and not a lable name? I mean, your two sentences contradict each other. You want to move e-mails out of the main inbox. And yet you want to look at e-mails withouht having to click on a label? I don't understand. Confused

Anyway, if you want it to look like in Yahoo!, where you can view e-mails only after you click on the folder name, you can just apply a label to the e-mails and archive them. Or you can set up filters, which make the same process automatic.

Hope that helps. Very Happy

I agree with IamTheKing9 ! I'm not sure you guys understand well that labels and folders are pretty much the same concept ! Imagine you replace the caption "Labels" by "Folders" ... You do have everything you want ! You can put your mails in a folder (by applying a label), move a mail to another folder (applying a new label, removing the old one), moving a mail from the inbox to a folder (Archive then apply the label) ...
Except that labels are more powerful : an email can have more than one label that means in term of folders that an email could be in more than one folder (which is quite clever I think).
Moreover you can setup a filter and ask for the email to "Skip the inbox" and apply a label so you don't see it in your inbox but you see it when you click "All mails" or the label you applied.
In fact it's exactly the same concept except that yahoo and google don't call it the same and that google extended a bit its features.
The only problem with this, is that you can't create a hierarchy of labels / folders ... but does yahoo allows that?

I didn't know about the labels.  I tried it just now, and I like it. Smile

That's great. I kind of knew you'd find it good. I mean, its the same thing (like folders), after all.

And thanks for supporting me, xamtoh. Very Happy

I haven't really realised about the labels concept either, but that's probably because I don't have hundreds of emails in mky inbox and am actually using Thunderbird as an email client. Thanks for the comment, I'll try it out.

BTW, in that case, Google should change the "labels" function to "folders", as it's less confusing to new users.

Explain to a new user that one copy of an email is in two (or more) folders at the same time?
......ummm, no. I think they should stick to "labels". Wink

Yeah, it would definitely confuse people. After all, what's the use of doing such a thing? I mean, labels is just a new name, but it doesn;t change what you can do with it. New users should just try and get used to it. Its part of the "new" feel in Gmail. Rolling Eyes

+1 it would be more confusing for people. Better to have a new name so people try and look around to understand how labels are working!

When I first started using Gmail I thought not having folders was going to be a problem for me. Not so once I started using and understanding the power of using labels. I use approximately 15 labels in combination with filters so that email is automatically labelled as it arrives. Searching for a particular email is a snap!

I've tried labels, but I do wish I could auto-sort my messages with filters to different folders.

Well, of course you can auto-sort them. Just set up a filter, and tell Gmail which label should be applied to the incoming e-mail.
