I
accidently made 2 indentical "Labels" for my archived mail.  I saved 9
emails into the dupicate label and then tried to delete the duplicate
label and transfer the 9 emails to the main label but I can't get them
into the main label. Here are the two procedures I have tried which do
not work, can you think of another way, hopefully less time consuming??

1.
I transferred the 9 messages into my inbox and then deleted the
original label from the 9 emails. I then  Edited the "labels" list and
removed the label that now had "0" emails in it.  Went back to my inbox
and added the label to the original 9 emails (and there was only ONE of
that label in the dropdown list now--the duplicate was gone) and then I
archived the 9 emails and would you believe, GMAIL added the duplicate
label BACK to the label list and deposited the 9 messages back into the
duplicate label???

             -------not to be deterred, next.............

2.
I went into the duplicate label and transferred the 9 emails into my
"in" box, I removed the label, I edited the labels and removed the one
that now had "0" emails stored in it. Went back to the inbox and copied
the  "subject" line from the original  message,  DELETED the original
message,  Composed a new email to myself and  pasted the original
subject line to  the new  email,  sent the email to myself, opened the
email added the singular label to the email, hit archive and AGAIN
GMAIL re-created the deleted duplicate label and put that newly created
email back into the wrong label.
Is there anything I can do to get thes 9 emails stored under the correct label??Please help!

What I'd try is removing the label (both versions) from all messages, and deleting both of them.
Then, log out of the account, and back in.
Verify that the label doesn't exist, and then recreate it.

That's what I'd try, anyway.

Thank you for the advise. I got frustrated earlier and this is what I ended up doing.....

Moved the 9 emails to my inbox and removed the label

Edited my labels and removed the "duplicate" label

Renamed the original label to something totally different

Went back to the inbox and labeled the 9 emails with the new, totally different label

and, voila! it worked!
WAY TOO MUCH work but GMail rocks and I wouldn't change to something else. I will probably never have this problem again.
Thanks again for the advise.
