Hello all,
It is my first post 
I want your thoughts on this:
Do you feel that because your parents may have supported you when you were younger, that you "owe" it to them to support them now?
(Pay the bills they run up etc, just because they did it for you when you were younger and unable to work)

Hi! First welcome to the forum. As for your question, it is not easy to support them if you don't have the founds yourself.. However if somebody in your family as close as your parents need money to survive, to me there is no way out. You have to help! You can use all kinds of reasons not to do it, but if you see somebody on the street who is starving wouldn't you help? If not with money then with food. Why should you do any less for your parents? They are people you love, I hope!

Welcome to the GC. I am a firm believer in, eye for an eye.
Both of my parents are retired Marine corps Drill Instructors. My father is a Gunnery Sgt. Mother is Staff Sgt. My parents gave me the best for me to become the man i am today. I feel that nothing is to good for my mother and father. They will never ask for my help, but every time i visit, i leave a hundred or what ever i can on my moms dresser. They together accumulate probably 150k together in a years time on pension, stock and others. But they also have a very expensive habbit. Real estate. They buy and sell homes all over the US. Cash is what they lack. So i do what i can, when i can. I agree whole heartedly that you ARE obligated to care for your folks.

misinterpretation + situation + emotion= problem

Yes, of course I'll feel obligated to support my parents. You're a beast if you can't help even your parents.
But, in case you haven't got the funds, you obviously can't help them.

I strongly feel that you should help your parents under any circumstances. It should not matter whether you have the funds or not. Your parents never thought about funds.  If they had less funds, they somehow managed to provide you a meal even if they had to stay hungry! So, I think you owe a lot to your parents and you can only try your best to help your parents (You will never be able to match what your parents had done for you). I know it doesn't sound 'Practical', but if you will give it a deep thought, you will realise it yourself.
