This thread is about what book you're reading right now. And, what circumstances lead you to read it.

It could be a novel, because you had a friend recommend it, a textbook that you need to read for school,
or an paperback that you found on a bus. But please answer both parts of the question. (And a bit about the book you're reading.)

At the moment, I'm reading "Blind Ambition" by John Dean; Counsel to president Richard Nixon, and Watergate cover-up conspirator.
An interesting 'period piece' that provides an insider's view of the days when the Conspiracy first formed, "Watergate" hadn't yet become part of the popular lexicon as a synonym for scandal, and a popular president had just won a record victory for a second term in office; despite being mired in an increasingly-unpopular war, and rumours of abuse of power. (I haven't finished it yet, but things aren't looking so good for Dicky.)

I'm reading it, because it was something that a neighbour had around, when I was looking for something to read.

So, what are you reading? And, why?

I am reading Diplomacy by Henry Kissinger right now. I saw it when I was doing an internship at he UN in NYC. I had always been intrigued by the very controversial H. Kissinger and decided to buy it there. Found it kind of funny to see his book on sale at the UN HQ in New York City. I decided to buy it.

Cheers,

Hey, that's a prominent figure from the same time period (late 'Sixties-mid 'Seventies) as 'my' book (and HK does get a brief mention). Quite a coincidence.

It's funny, as Kissinger was a Nobel-prize winner for peace initiatives; but when I think of him, I usually just see the old "Peace is at Hand" poster, with a picture of him with a hand on a secretary's behind.

History is not kind.

Thanks for getting the ball rolling. I hope to hear from some more readers.

I'm reading 'Angels and Devils' because it is the only salvational path to pure atheism. Other than that, a handful of Tom Clancy books are on the waiting list...

Interesting reason, although I didn't know that there existed a 'salvational' atheism (sounds a bit like 'military intelligence').

Geez. You miss one meeting....

Oh, and I like Clancy, too. Just a good, page-turning read.

Yeah, that can be a problem for me. There's a ton of books that have accumulated around the house, reflecting various tastes. Some of them very bad.
(It's a minor mystery where some have even come from.)

The trouble is, I hate quitting anything I've started, so I've ended up suffering through some rather mediocre reading materials.
Only if it's just really badly written, will I just toss it, and try again.

I'm currently reading the topic What are you Reading? ... and Why?, in the Books Forum of Google Community. And as for why, I myself don't know...
