I found an interesting article on Google News about Amazon's fairly new search engine being able to overpass Google in the web race. A9 comes with a load more features than Google, when searching the web. A9 introduces searching history, along with customizable interface, allowing you to see what you want to see when searching.
Below is the article from "The Times of India"
| Quote: |
SAN FRANCISCO: Thought nothing web search is synonymous with Google? Think again. Amazon new search site A9.com is set to better the mother of all search engines.
A9 does not gives you Google's results, plus a lot more. You can pull up Web results on the same page with results for the same search phrase from the Internet Movie Database, Amazon's "Search This Book" feature, Gurunet's research works, and other sources. In other words, it's a one-stop source for a variety of kinds of information.
A9 also maintains a history of your searches – a handy feature if you tend to search for similar stuff again and again, and handier still because it's available from any PC that you use A9 on (as long as you log in).
Similarly, you can maintain a bookmark list that's available from anywhere, unlike normal browser bookmarks which are associated with one browser on one PC.
There's also an A9 toolbar (a close cousin of the Google Toolbar) that builds much of this functionality into a browser plug-in, and which also lets you annotate Web pages with notes.
Most of what A9 does can be accomplished with other sites and tools; its selling point isn't so much unique functionality as the way it provides a lot of handy little features wrapped up in one place.
Its interface that allows a fair amount of customizability and a Google-like mean-and-lean aesthetic is worth checking out simply as an interesting piece of Web design.
But why is Amazon poaching on Google territory? It’s shopping site is proof enough that it is good at making big, complex databases and perhaps that is what led to A9. And perhaps its business interests too will be served by selling targeted ads, specially books.
There is one problem though. The A9 toolbar only works in Internet Explorer.

I do like A9... but normally I use google to find what I want really fast, Google is slick, simple, and theres no fancy scripting needed. The feature I do like about A9 is the history feature, I wish Google would add that. _________________

Google probably has little if anything to do with it. Business is Business, as the saying goes, and as another saying goes it's a Dog-eat-dog world out there.
I don't like Amazon, or a9. I'll stick with the giant who bumped its head and became retarded recently. _________________ Tetris | Great Big Blog |
