Google has an undeniably fantastic brad and is certainly the best at internet search. However, but Google claims that solving the search pain of the internet is a huge achievement relative to solving issues of single-point search across the enterprise, they're missing the point, according to one review.

The recently revealed Google Search Appliance, or GSA, is not at version 2. It was originally quietly released 2 years ago. The new version adds features and capacity, but retains hardware & software packaging and a proprietary setup.

Despite the warm regard for the internet Google shown by business professionals, enterprise Google is now only at version 2 of their offering. The Delphi Group research surveys indicate it's not ready for prime time.

At least at the user interface level, simplicity is virtue on the web. However, offering a product that ignores the complexity of issues in the enterprise will not go very far. Companies buy GSA because their users love Google, and little is solved with the solution from both the end-user and architecture viewpoints.

Indeed the new GSA meets a number of requirements: usability of the admin interface, web format integration, and hardware-based scalability. However, it's still lacking.

The GSA's dependence on the Google internet development group for new features, and corporate Google's general priority on advertising-based search, virtually guarantee that the GSA will continue to run far behind the enterprise leaders -- as the baby steps taken over the two years since the original GSA release demonstrates.
